First Solar sunflower put into operation in Zadar
As part of the Solar sunflowers project that in 10 elementary schools across the Croatia jointly implementing Croatian Telecom, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and UTE d.o.o. as contractor first in the series of solar trekers was put into operation on Thursday, 21 March 2013. at 13:00 in school Šimun Kožičić Benja, Asja Petričić 7 in Zadar.
The project intention is to educate elementary school students about renewable energy - solar, wind, river flows, tides and waves, geotermal and biomass energy. The program is made possible through donations of Croatian Telecom. Education of students will be conducted in collaboration with the Society for Sustainable Development and Eko Kvarner.
As part of the project in elementary schools in Dubrovnik, Hvar, Zadar, Kaštel Lukšić, Krk, Pula, Križevci, Zagreb, Ivanić-Grad and Vukovar the solar trekers is installed. Solar treker is standalone solar system which "follow" the sun during the day so that the solar modules are targeted at the optimum angle to the sun, which brings in about 30% greater efficiency of the system, and thus more electricity produced.
